American DJ Takes the Mirror Ball High Tech

American DJ has brought the mirror ball into the digital age with the MB DMX Mirror Ball Motor, which allows mirror ball movement to be controlled with the same DMX controllers that DJs and lighting technicians use for other effects and lets them control each mirror ball’s speed and direction, turn pinspots on and off in a flash, and incorporate multiple mirror balls into light shows.

"The MB DMX mirror ball motor is truly an innovative, revolutionary product," said Scott Davies, general manager of the American DJ Group. "We have essentially brought the low-tech mirror ball into the modern era. The fact that mirror balls can now be operated with a DMX controller will make them more convenient to incorporate into today’s light shows, and will inspire DJs and clubs to use them more creatively."

The MB DMX utilizes two DMX channels: Channel 1 controls motor speed and direction of the mirror ball, and channel 2 turns the pinspots on and off. Designed for use with mirror balls up to 20", the unit is compatible with any universal DMX lighting controller, such as the Light Stream Controls Show Designer. The DMX or function allows independent control of each fixture, giving users the freedom to create unique and customized programs tailored to their specific needs.

Multiple MB DMXs can be set up in a master/slave configuration, where one acts as a controlling unit and the others react to that unit’s built-in presets. In master/slave mode, up to four MB DMX units can be daisy-chained together for synchronized motor rotation and universal speed, resulting in dramatic visual effects.

An all-in-one unit, the MB DMX includes two three-pronged Edison sockets to power the pinspots. That means that the pinspots can be plugged directly into the MB DMX, rather than having to be powered separately. Other features of the American DJ MB DMX include XLR in/out, micro-stepping motors for smooth rotation, circuit breaker protection, a built-in rigging point and two holes for safety cables, and a 1/4" socket for on/off blackout control via an optional American DJ Mini/C controller (sold separately).

The MB DMX measures 8"L x 4.75"W x 5"H and weighs just 4lb. Suggested retail price of the MB DMX Mirror Ball Motor is $139.95. For more information, contact American DJ at phone: 800-333-0644, fax: 323-582-2610, web: www.americandj.com, e-mail: info@americandj.com.
